Hailongtun Castle to be upgraded as top China tourist site

The government of Huichuan district plans to invest 2 billion RMB to upgrade Guizhou’s first World Heritage site, Hailongtun Castle. It is to be a 5A tourist destination, the highest rating given by the China National Tourism Administration.  During the recent session of the World Heritage Committee, three Chinese cities including Hailongtun were added to the World Heritage List.   China now has 48 sites registered with UNESCO.  .

Hailongtun (“Sea Dragon Castle”) is a located on Longyan Mountain, and is an example of a well preserved medieval castle in China, dating to 1257 and the Southern Song Dynasty.  It is one of the Major National Historical and Cultural Sites of China.  The castle occupies a total area of 1.59 square kilometers, with 6-kilometer long walls. It is surrounded by cliffs on all four sides with only one entrance from the mountain road.
