August is the month of family vacations in France, and traditionally everyone (who can, anyway) leaves town (every town). But the month of quiet streets and deserted shops is over, and today, the last Saturday of the month, brings an annual traffic nightmare as everyone heads home. School begins on Monday.
The French traffic reporting service Bison Fute has called a red alert for the whole country for today, after some region-specific warnings yesterday. Sunday will be heavy, too, but not as bad.
