A Saturday trip to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx to see a Frida Kahlo exhibit took on a different cast when we realized that the Garden was also celebrating Halloween and the Dia de los Muertos.
When we arrived, a variety of skeletons and butterflies were wandering the paths, getting ready for later; the large figures sit on the heads of the performers, and their arms and other parts are operated by long sticks attached.
As we walked around the park, we noted lots of costumes, and to our surprise, many adults in facepaint and costume.
And then, as we prepared to leave, we encountered the whole parade of skeletons, monsters and stilt-walkers, accompanied by music.
