In the aftermath of the attacks in Paris and threats made against Rome and the Vatican by an ISIS magazine ‘Dabiq,’ Italy has tightened security, especially in view of the upcoming Catholic Jubilee or Holy Year that begins December 8.
The security uptick includes deploying 700 extra troops on the capital’s streets, and a ban on remote-controlled aircraft over Rome. While the concern is that terrorists might use drones to launch attacks, it will probably disappoint many who might have planned to use drones to photograph Holy Year events.
The event is expected to bring millions of Catholic pilgrims to Rome; in addition to the drone ban, added security points will be set up in St. Peter’s Square.
