Last week’s stories of a dry December and difficult conditions for ski resorts is now just that: last week’s news. The new year has brought heavy snows across Europe’s Alpine ski belt, and resorts are tweeting and e-mailing the good news all over.
The picture above, vrom Val d’Isere in France is fairly typical, with snows reaching about 18″ in some areas, and falls of 6-9″ common. The northwestern Alps in Switzerland and France got the most, with less in the Italian Dolomites and Austrian Alps.
Despite the new hope, snow depths are still below average, though more is coming. Fraser Wilkin of weathertoski.co.uk told The Telegraph (UK) that “this snowfall is nothing unusual, it’s just such a contrast to what’s been happening so far.” For more details and pictures from The Telegraph, click HERE
