Feb. 10, 2016: Sights and Sounds of New Orleans

There is nothing like New Orleans, Louisiana.  Sadly I have never been there for Mardi-Gras but we did make a day trip while vacationing in Pensacola, FL. It was very interesting and we realized that we need to go back someday and really soak up the life that is New Orleans. The city is so fully of history. Can’t beat the flavor of their food and the wonderful Jazz music that you can hear everywhere in the French Quarter.

Cafe de Monde 1We didn’t have a whole lot of time but did make sure we made it to CafÉ de Monde for their famous beignets. They were originally brought to Louisiana by the Acadians. These were fried fritters, sometimes filled with fruit. Today, the beignet is a square piece of dough, fried and covered with powdered sugar. They are served in orders of three. They are amazing! We heard that there are sometimes powdered sugar fights among the patrons, but we didn’t see any of that. Oh well, it may next time

Cafe de Monde 2The one thing I did want to share was a cute little shop that I just had to check out because it has my nickname – Sammy’s. I just thought it was really cool. If you have never been to New Orleans, I definitely suggest checking it one day and soak up some of their wonderful atmosphere.
