We at TravelGumbo want to thank all of you for reading and contributing travel blogs, photos and info. You make us the unique and passionate travel community that we are. Everyone who has contributed should be so proud!
One of catalysts for us creating TravelGumbo was that we saw great blogs, photos and travel information by travelers on other travel forums that never really saw the light of day. The info didn’t get on the front page and was not promoted. The end result being the blogs were buried in the country section they were submitted to. The blogs were only seen be people researching that area, and if that was an area few people went to, the blog was rarely seen.
So while learning about a place you wanted to go to got easier than ever, learning about a place you didn’t know about was left mainly to ‘travel experts’ with popular mediums. While some of those shows and experts are great, so is some material from passionate travelers, in many cases better. Personal blogs have helped people share their own travel passions and trips, but one person can only write so much, promote so much, and even when successfully done, the blog still comes from one perspective.
That’s why we think our travel community of TravelGumbo is unique. We give people a chance to submit their great blogs to the front page and we promote the stories. We even nominate some of the material for awards. Last year, Whitney Stewart, won a bronze for her travel series “Finding Reiner” on NATJA. We share and learn and have a true sense of a travel community. I know because of TG, I personally have gone and will go several places that I knew nothing about beforehand. And I’ve also enjoyed virtually going to places that I’ll never get.
Thanks again everyone! To have such quality from everybody, shown on a daily basis, is quite an accomplishment. We can’t wait for the future!
