The village of Trécon, whose name translates to ‘very stupid’, has been elected the newest member of a French association of villages with funny names.
The “Association des Communes de France aux Noms Burlesque et Chantants,” which sounds a bit like a Monty Python village idiot skit, represents 39 villages with names that have double meanings or funny sounds. This year’s meeting was held in Marans, which sounds like ‘marrant,’ or ‘funny.’
Trécon’s mayor, Georges Leherle, told Le Parisien he’s proud of the honor. “I’m always happy to tell people where I live, I can’t deny it…And you know, despite the name, we’re no stupider than anyone else.”
