Italy’s museums donate fees for earthquake relief

Italy’s state-run museums will donate all of their income from this coming Sunday to relief efforts for areas of central Italy hard-hit by Wednesday’s earthquakes.

Culture Ministrer Dario Freceschini announced the “museums4Italy” campaign, calling it a “show of solidarity for the people in affected areas.” While rescue and recovery efforts are primary now, the Ministry has identified “293 items of cultural or historic interest which have been damaged or destroyed within a 20 kilometer radius of the epicenter.”

The epicenter of the quake was in the town of Amatrice; another unusual relief effort has been launched by a food blogger who has lined up Italian restaurants all over the world to make €2-a-plate donations for relief for every plate of Amatriciana pasta, named for the town, they serve.
