With final approval from Chinese regulators received last week, the merger of Starwood hotels into Marriott is now complete, and Marriott, with 30 different hotel brands and over a million rooms, is now the world’s largest hotelier.
But what does that mean for members of the two hotel chains’ loyalty programs? After months of speculation, Marriott has given part of the answer:
- If you’re a member of both programs, you can link your accounts for access to both chains’ benefits
- Points can be moved from one program to the other; Starpoints are worth 3 Marriott Rewards points
- Both programs will continues in their present form for at least two years before any change or combination happens
- Both the American Express Starwood credit card and the Chase Marriott card programs will continue for now.
