Dreary skies last Friday couldn’t dim the celebration as Airbus delivered a new A350 to Singapore Airlines: the 10,000th plane built by Airbus since its start in 1974.
The ceremony in Toulouse, France was a milestone many thought would never happen; it its first years, the company struggled for orders and to get its first plane, the A300, into the air. In one early year, the company had more cancellations than orders.
The company was formed as a consortium of French, German and British aerospace manufacturers, and only later became a single company. It builds parts in a number of countries, with final assembly at Toulouse, Hamburg, Germany, Seville, Spain, Tainjin, China and Mobile, Alabama.
