Another wild traditional food fight…

Spain seems to be the home for wild and humorous food fights as traditions; it’s the home of the ‘Tomatina’ with its tomato-based assaults, and this week’s specialty, the ‘Enfarinats’ in Ibi, near Valencia.

In this one, a mock coup-d’etat is staged by a group of men, proclaiming “new justice” and absurd new laws. Violators are met with fines (which go to charity) and with eggs, flour and firecrackers. More details from TheLocal.es HERE

The date, Dec. 28, is no accident: it’s the Day of the Innocents, marking the anniversary of a slaughter of the innocents by King Herod in biblical times. The day has taken on the role April Fools day has in English-speaking countries.

In another prank this year, Burger King put out an announcement that it was changing its name in Spain to Burguer King because Spaniards, it said, couldn’t say the chain’s name properly.
