Martin Luther: Wittenberg’s big tourism attraction

On the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s 95 Theses and the start of the Protestant Reformation merchants in Wittenberg, where he lived and nailed are looking for profits with Luther-themed merchandise.

It’s a year of celebrations, commemorations, exhibits and symposia all over, but for Wittenberg, it’s a once-in-a-half-millenium opportunity to cash in with such diverse items as Luther pasta, Luther tea, Luther teddy bears, and the Luther Burger, seen above.

The town is seeing a big boom in visits leading up to the October anniversary; even before the official events began in April, the first quarter of the year saw business double over previous years.
