Bisceglie, Puglia, Italy is being over-run by rats, according to local complaints, and a local advertising agency called Nerd, has found a novel way to call attention to the problem.
Rats? You need cats. And Nerd and its friends have placed 50 fluffy toy cats around the town to shame local authorities. The cats are labeled with slogans for the campaign. While it’s drawn a lot of publicity, it has not yet gotten the action the campaign demands.
In a way, the idea mirrors proposals by a candidate in last year’s elections for Mayor of Rome: He proposed importing 500,000 cats (real ones) to be turned loose on the city’s rat population. He didn’t win.
