This year marks two important dates for Montreal, its founding 375 years ago, and a great modern moment, its 1967 World’s Fair, Expo 67. To celebrate, the Museum of Contemprary Art (MAC) is hosting a retrospective of the fair.
The exhibit, called In Search of Expo 67, is built around re-examining the big issues addressed by the fair, through 19 works, 16 of them new, by contemporary Canadian and Quebec artists. Architecture, sound, film, music as well as painting are used to highlight the creative liberty extended to artists who took part in the original Expo.
The works in the show were commissioned specifically for the exhibition, creating an opportunity for them to explore the archives and history of Expo 67, reinventing the past from a 21st century perspective.
