Disney Cruise Lines has slipped a third new ship into its order with the Meyer Werft shipyard, almost doubling its fleet by the time all three are delivered.
Disney had previously ordered ships for delivery in 2021 and 2023; the new order will fit between them for 2022 delivery. All three will be the same size, with 1250 cabins for a capacity of a bit more than 2500 passengers, but the company says that each will have its own unique features.
At the announcement, Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, said: “We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level.” The company already operates four vessels.
Names and itineraries for the three new ships haven’t been announced yet.
