A corner bakery in Montmartre

One of my favorite things about staying in Paris is being able to walk out early every morning to buy fresh bread or rolls, or even more. On this trip, I’ve had the good fortune to be barely 20 yards from one of my favorite neighborhood bakeries, and my friend and fellow poster GarryRF asked for pictures.

Pain d’Antan is in the Clignancourt quarter of Montmartre, at the junction of three streets. It advertises specialties from the Aveyron region of southern France, including rissoles de pruneaux (haven’t had yet!), which probably accounts for the lovely ‘chocolatine’ that others call ‘pain au chocolat.’

The narrow corner location means that some of the best, and most enticing views are from outside, with the bread facing Rue Eugene Sue, and the quiches and tartes on Rue Marcadet.

I’ve been visiting nearly every day, trying to avoid buying too much each time. But with prices at 58 cents for a demi baguette and €2.90 for a marvelous multi-grain loaf, it’s hard to avoid overbuying! Closed on Sunday…my excuse to sample the other pleasures of the area!

A beautiful display Paul ! Thank you.

I feel I’m being drawn by a magnet to share in your newfound delights.

There’s enough there to tempt the palette of the finest connoisseur.

And less than 1 calorie a look too.

A fine display of living Art !
