Dec. 7, 2017: Liverpool Docks, UK

These huge cranes stand at 479 feet high. They are the latest addition to Liverpool Docks which has been shortened to 7.5 miles now that all dock traffic is in containers. They cost £200 million to manufacture and fit. This photo is taken from Perch Rock Lighthouse looking across the River Mersey. A distance of 4 miles from the Cranes.

Between 1830 and 1930 about forty million people left Europe in search of a new and better life.

About nine million of them sailed from Liverpool, then the largest emigration port in the world.
