A full-size replica of Noah’s Ark, with a Bible museum aboard, broke loose from its moorings in the Dutch port of Urk during Wednesday’s storm, one of several that have battered western Europe in recent weeks.
The 70-metre long ark, which is 13 metres high, also caused damage to a number of other boats in the harbor. Urk mayor Pieter van Maaren tweeted that “The damage is quite considerable.” Seven people aboard were rescued.
The storm was sufficiently serious that the Netherlands closed all five of the surge barriers that keep the nation from being flooded in heavy seas.
