Bet you didn’t know they had even one! Oslo, which has hosted the world’s first (and perhaps only) floating sauna since 2015 will soon have a second, thanks to a grant from a local bank’s foundation.
The new, like the original, is a project of the Sørenga Badstu og Helårsbad (Sørenga Sauna and Year- Round Swimming) Association, which has received about €103,000 for the project which “will enable sauna and bathing all year round,” according to chairperson Ragna Marie Fjeld.
The design for the new raft, much larger than the original, is the winner of an architecture/engineering competition. Two architecture students, whose design was chosen, told media that the facility, based on 30×30 beams, was designed for rapid assembly. “This is a concept that can be built quickly within a week. So we hope to see it finished soon,” one of them said.
Hmmm….could a floating sauna be called a steamboat?
