More than a thousand monuments, archaeological sites and more, not normally open to the public, will welcome visitors in Italy this weekend. It’s an annual event staged by the Italian National Trust (FAI).
This year’s dates are March 24 and 25th, marking the 26th time for the event, called FAI Spring Days (Giornate FAI di primavera) has been held, growing larger each year. The sites, some of them shown off in the video below, are quite diverse.
They include the Italian Navy’s library in Rome’s Palazzo Marini; the Pirelli skyscraper in Milan, the city’s first high-rise; metro construction sites; art sites located in former convents and former prisons, and a huge salt plain populated by hundreds of flamingoes.
Entry is free, but FAI is asking donations of €2-5 for participants. A few special sites, such as the private apartments of the former king of Naples, are open only to FAI members.
