Despite recent complaints about security and dealys on Eurostar trains and the continuing exponential growth of cheap flights, Europe has many routes where trains still have a time advantage over flying.
And sometimes, it’s a price advantage as well, especially when you eliminate the cost of travel to and from airports, since the trains arrive directly in city centers. The time advantage is based on that, as well: travel to or from an airport can often add an hour to each end of the trip, plus security times.
USA Today recently compiled a selection of European routes where the train beats the plane, including such key ones as London-Paris, London-Amsterdam, Barcelona-Madrid and Munich-Vienna. For the list, and more details, click HERE
