Europe moves to ‘digital single market’

Starting this week, Europeans, and others shopping in Europe, are free from another ‘digital border’ when shopping as new rules came into effect Monday.

Within Europe, under the new rules, anyone can shop online in any other European country, without being redirected to his or her ‘home’ website, where prices may be different, or products not available. Up to now, according to the EU Commission, over 60% of websites that exist in more than one country have done that.

Future initiatives, to be completed over the next few years, including common payment systems, and a method for countries to deal with each other on differing VAT tax systems. Unified consumer protection rules are due in 2020, and the VAT rules for goods and services in 2021.For more information from the EU Commission, click HERE
