Congratulations goes to George G for finding Gumbo visiting the Waterfront District in Sydney, Nova Scotia!
The Waterfront District has the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion with the “Big Fiddle”. The fiddle and bow are 60 feet high and represents Cape Brettons Celtic culture. It plays music composed by local musician, Kinnon Beaton. The pavillion also has a theatre and several shops. Most of the shops hours and days depend on when the cruise ships come to port.
The Waterfront also has statues and monuments. The Merchant Mariners Memorial was dedicated in 2016 to civilians who served in the Merchant Navy during both World Wars. Their merchant ships were routinely sunk by German submarines.
Reflections on the water are magnificent in daytime or evening.
