Iceland’s great road trip routes are getting a new addition this summer with the June 8 opening of the Arctic Coast Way, a new 560-mile skim along the country’s northernmost areas.
Along the way, the route passes through 21 villages, and connects to four islands by boat. At its western end, it intersects one of Iceland’s other great road trips, the Ring Road, which circles the entire island, but passes south of the northernmost areas.
Despite its isolated northern route, officials say, the whole Arctic Coast Way consists of real roads, not the gravel paths common in the area.
