Good news for the environment, but bad news for those of you who collect little bottles of shampoo and body wash from everywhere you stay: California is on the way to ban them.
A bill banning hotels, motels, B&Bs and vacation rentals from putting out bottles smaller than 12 ounces has passed a key Assembly committee. The bill would mandate that anything smaller be replaced by bulk dispensers, as a number of hotel chains, including Marriott, are already doing.
According to the bill’s author, Assemblymember Ash Kalra, “The amount of plastic produced is increasing exponentially, and we must consider all options to reduce this pollution from entering our waste streams. While it may not appear to be a problem on an individual level, small plastic bottles that are less than 12-ounces represent a sizeable amount of waste collectively that the state must address.”
