My favourite destination when it comes to travel has to be Gran Canaria. I’ve been there a number of times now and each time, it’s gotten better. Each time I’ve visited, I’ve stayed at a hotel near Playa del Cura – and when I say near, I mean near! It’s a five minute walk to the beach and it’s heaven. Why do I love this part of the Canary Islands so much? Read on for my personal Gran Canaria travel guide!
Easy Flights
I’m not a fan of flying. I hate it. But I don’t let that stop me from enjoying a good trip. Thankfully, Gran Canaria is a short, four hour flight from Bristol Airport. With a good book and an epic playlist to listen to, it can actually feel less than that! It’s a destination that you can fly to from plenty of airports in the UK, meaning that flights are also easy to come by. I always make sure I can track down a voucher code before I book my flights too so that I can get them at the best price.
The Beaches
If you love a beach holiday, I would definitely recommend Gran Canaria as a destination. The beaches are glorious. I’ve already mentioned Playa del Cura, but that’s the tip of the iceberg. There’s dozens of beautiful beaches you can explore, my personal favourites being Playa del Inglés and Puerto Rico.
Gorgeous Scenery
I have real love of some of the scenery in Gran Canaria. The views you’ll see simply standing on your hotel balcony are breathtaking, but my absolute favourite location for scenery has to be Puerto de Mogán. Explore the yacht marina, which has an array of charming and colourful buildings in addition to the traditional fishing port. It’s a busy little town full of shops perfect for picking up souvenirs, and you’ll also find a whole array of bars and restaurants serving everything from the traditional Canarian cuisine to international options, and of course, a mouthwatering choice of seafood.
Palmitos Park
Any tourist looking for things to do in Gran Canaria needs to pay a visit to Palmitos Park at least once. It’s a gorgeous botanical garden and animal park located in Maspalomas, and it makes for a fantastic day out. You can discover an array of tropical birds, fish and reptiles, marvel in the stunning views of their house of orchids, or be amazed by the dolphin show. As you explore the park you’ll find plenty of opportunity for animal encounters (yes, even with the dolphins!), along with regular animal shows throughout the day – I most definitely recommend the parrot show!
Puerto Rico
I love shopping. Even when I’m on holiday and taking in the sights, I still can’t resist exploring the shops. Which is why I love a trip into Puerto Rico. The shopping centre is perfect for picking up all of your souvenirs and indulging in a cocktail or two, and the golden sanded beach is perfect for topping up your tan afterwards! My own personal favourite has to be the Neptune themed mini-golf course though!
What are your favourite things to do in Gran Canaria? I’m always keen to try something new when I go on my next trip!
