Eurostar, the cross-channel high-speed train operator, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year by installing a “Press for Champagne” button on selected trains for the next month.
The button isn’t actually on the train—it’s in the Eurostar app. And there’s a catch; the champagne will be delivered to the seats of only the first 25 passengers to click in. The Independent (UK) calculated that out to about four bottles per train.
Still, it is a reminder of older times when luxury train travel included not only the champagne but butlers, chefs, mysterious spies and Belgian detectives with large mustaches and ‘grey matter.’
