An app that has divided the world into 57 trillion little squares each 3m x 3m and assigned a unique three-word address to each has the potential to speed up or make possible rescue of people who are lost or unable to move.
UK police have recommended that people download What3Words after having used it in a number of rescues; a recent BBC broadcast highlighted one such case, where several friends were soaked, miserable and lost in a wooded area. Once they got a phone signal and called 999, they were advised to grab the app, allowing them to give their location as ‘kicked converged soccer.”
Of course, if you’re not lost and just want to let your friends know where to meet you without having to give complicated instructions, it’s good for that, too!
