Allegiant, the Las Vegas-based discount carrier that has carved out a niche flying people from smaller cities to warm-weather destinations, is planning a big expansion that involves more flights from major cities. and a total of 44 new routes.
With 15 new Airbus jets last year and more coming this year, it’s in a position to make those moves, which started last year by adding Nashville to the network with flights from there to eight destinations. Now it plans to add service from Boston, Chicago and Houston, which will be the airline’s first moved into those cities.
All of the routes are seasonal, and most involve two-day-a-week flights; the airline likes to fly full, and to use its planes to cover multiple cities. Each of the new routes connects the larger cities with a number of smaller ones.
