Days after the first Caribbean cruise to start was stopped because of an onboard Covid outbreak, several members of Congress and others have called on CDC to reinstate its ‘no sail’ order, which expired at the end of October.
SeaDream Yacht Club’s cruise, exempt because of its small size from both the no sail order and the new regulations that are being put in place for resuming cruises, is docked in Barbados and the passengers are being quarantined after seven cases were detected onboard. The ship was carrying 66 crew and 50 passengers.
CDC originally planned to extend the no-sail order to the end of February, but under pressure from the Trump Administration and the industry it instead set a series of new rules and tests that would have to be met before cruises could begin again. Nearly all lines have postponed their intended start until well into the new year anyway.
