Caraquet Bay changes day to day when Spring finally arrives. It goes from having a sheet of ice on top of the Bay to clear waters.
Ships come in to break the ice for the upcoming crab fishing season. They even have a machine that’s made in Caraquet , nicknamed the frog, that comes in to breaks the ice around the marina.
This year’s crab season is earlier because they want the fisherman out of the water during the whale migration.
Everyday is different. The Bay can freeze up. It can also gather up mounds of snow in the middle of the water because of the wind. The weather is still cold but the transformation is well worth seeing.
