Carrefour de la mer is Caraquet’s Center of tourism. It has a Performing Arts Center, restaurants, craft shops, a boardwalk, picnic areas, a small boat marina and a kids park all right on the Bay. The shops, restaurants and Marina are only open in the summer.
The Performing Arts Center has musicians and plays. Due to Covid,
they only sell tables for your bubble only.
The boardwalk that leads to lookouts are equiped with picnic tables and lounge chairs. They were put in in 2018. You almost get a 360 degree view of the water from the lookouts and can see Caraquet Island, Maisonette and on the other side of the Bay, La Gaspesie, Quebec.
There is local art and crafts in the small stores and outside. The bird statues are only put on their platforms in the summer, to avoid the harsh winter weather.
Locals use the Carrefour de la mer as much as tourists. It does have good places to eat and drink.
The kids park has a nautical theme. It’s fun to see the designs and it looks kids have a blast there.
Carrefour means crossroads in English and and it really is in a lot of ways. There is a small boat marina there too. A great place to get out, socialize and see the magnificent Bay of Caraquet.
