Ireland’s tourism industry may have been largely dormant for a year of pandemic, but it hasn’t spent that time sleeping. Irish Tourism Minister Catherine Martin has just announced a €73 million investment in four new ‘hero’ attractions to ramp up the appeal.
The four include a new visitor experience at the source of the River Shannon, a glass walkway and funicular at Fort Dunree, high above the Donegal Coast, a reimagined Westport House along the ‘Wild Atlantic Way,’ and a virtual flyover experience that will give visitors a theme park-like overview of the Irish capital.
The four projects are proposed by local authorities, who will have two years to be ready once they receive the government grant money, funneled through the official tourism promotion agency Fáilte Ireland. The grants are part of a larger program launched in 2019. The winning projects were chosen from among many other applicants.
