Cowboy Muffler Man, Pennsylvania

“Sam” is located in front of the Cadet Restaurant in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. I used to travel US Route 422 on my way to my brother’s house in northwestern Pennsylvania and pass by this huge sculpture. One time I decided to stop and snap his photogenic self. This statue has been there since 1962 when “Sam” was at a filling station / garage and uniformed as a gas station attendant before the restaurant took him over and added the giant burger in his big mitts.

At Jasper White’s Summer Shack restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts there’s one who now appears to be a salty old fisherman; he began life as a Polynesian warrior when the site was occupied by a Tiki bar.

I finally managed to educate myself about the mysterious ‘Muffler Man’. Nothing to do with scarves, apparently. It is not an expression used over here.
