Princess cruises back to Love Boat 70s

Princess Cruises has announced a February cruise from LA to the Mexican Riviera that’s strictly for those whose nostalgia for the 1970s-80s Love Boat series is still afloat.

The cruise, sailing February 26, will pluck at every nostalgic string of the show, with tributes to the late Gavin McLeod who played the captain to the presence of the surviving crew members who, as the picture above shows, are not as young as they used to be.

Cruise activities include actors sharing favorite memories from the show and Love-Boat themed activities including the sailaway party; a special 1970s-inspired Love Boat Disco deck party; a vow renewal ceremony; Love Boat trivia; cast photo ops; Love Boat-themed menus and cocktails and Love Boat episodes airing on the top deck with Movies Under the Stars.

It’s not the first time the cruise line has dipped into the memory mode; a 2015 cruise with similar themes marked the 50th anniversary of the show. It should be remembered that the show played a crucial role in making the public aware of cruising, a tiny fraction then of what it has become. McLeod helped that along by appearing in character as a Princess ‘brand ambassador’ for 35 years.
