While waiting for an early morning flight, we came across this statue. Everyone knows that hula is the dance of Hawaii, and I liked the feeling of movement it conveys.
Hula Kahiko is the traditional form of hula, generally referring to dances developed before the 20th century introduced modern instruments like the guitar and ukulele. Kahiko hula is danced to drums, rattles, rhythm sticks and historical chants. It’s difficult to learn and master, often requiring years of training.
Kahiko hula are often slow, soulful dances performed mostly by women but also by men. Traditional clothes are worn — never grass skirts.
