Literally.
Amsterdam’s Electric Tram Line Museum is selling off a well-traveled veteran of the city’s transit system, now surplus to need and in need of a serious cleanup. And a bit more of a cleanup if you actually want it to move on its own.
The tram, a 1957 model, retired from Amsterdam service in 2004, and then did another seven years’ service in Poland before heading home. The museum needs the space, and put the tram on an auction site.
So far, the offers have been around €5,000, but have come mainly from scrap dealers. Max Vermeulen, museum spokesperson, told local reporters the museum doesn’t want to see it scrapped.
‘We would prefer to sell to someone who will reuse the tram, for instance as a tiny house or for meetings.” The ad says that any reasonable offer will be accepted, but Vermeulen says that ‘As far as I’m concerned the person with the wackiest idea can have it for €2,000.’
