This is a 1949 Delahaye 175 S Roadster, one of three classic cars on display at the National Museum of Qatar, Doha, of all places. They form a sneak preview of what will be on show at the new Qatar Auto Museum when it is completed.
I saw this car when we were in Doha for a few days in June and thought it was one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen – and I particularly like old cars.
According to the display’s plaque, it is one of the most outstanding and grandiose post-war coachbuilt cars in existence.
Its chassis is one of only 51 units built by Delahaye, a French manufacturer known for its limited luxury car production. Its Art Deco-inspired coachwork was designed by Saoutchik – another French company – famed for its extravagant interiors in cars manufactured from the 1930s through the 1950s.
This award-winning model was apparently once owned by British movie star, Diana Dors, and you have to be of a certain age to remember her! The cars will be on display at the National Museum until January 2023.
Stunning! Thanks for sharing this.
