Faneuil Hall is a historic landmark in Boston. Known as the “Cradle of Liberty”, it has functioned as a meeting place for more than 275 years. In the early years it was also used as Boston’s town hall.

Many lively discussions, protests and debates have been held here and are still held to this day. The hall has been used by participants in the Revolutionary war, abolitionists, suffragists, and people in the labor movement.
Faneuil Hall was built by Peter Faneuil, a merchant, and was completed in 1742. The first floor of the building is a market, with stairs leading to the Great Hall on the second floor. Today Faneuil Hall is owned by the City of Boston and operated as a historic site by the National Park Service.
