Dublin Airport got 26,196 noise complaints from its neighbors last year, a sizable increase from the year before. That wouldn’t really be news except for the fact that 23,431 of the complaints came from a single individual.
The complainer, whose name hasn’t been released, lives in the northwest Dublin suburb of Ongar. He has averaged 64 complaints a day, which leads to a conclusion that perhaps he has too much time on his hands and could use a new hobby.
Which is not to say that no one else is complaining. In fact, the total number of individuals filing complaints last year totaled 608, more than triple the 174 who complained in 2021. It’s likely that the increased number is connected to the opening of a new runway, and a 375% increase in passenger traffic after the easing of Covid restrictions.
