As some of you may have noticed, I’ve long been fascinated by birds and their absolute lack of respect for even our most serious monuments. And here’s another example, this one in Munich.
The subject is Maximillian II, King of Bavaria, a mid-19th-century liberalizer and modernizer who tried (without much success) to lead smaller German states to be a ‘third force’ between Austria and Prussia. The birds, it seems, don’t care.
