Jimmy’s Down the Street, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Even though I’ve lived in the Inland Northwest for many years, I’d never been to Jimmy’s Down the Street until just a few weeks ago.  Turns out that was a mistake on my part.

Jimmy’s is a breakfast and lunch diner located in Couer d’Alene, near the Idaho/Washington state border.  It’s been at its current location for more than fifty years, during which it transitioned from a soda shop to a diner and went through several owners.  In 2009 Jimmy and his wife Anna purchased the business with the goal of serving good food at reasonable prices.  All recipes are made in house daily from fresh ingredients.  The place is usually packed, so it seems that they have been successful.

The decor is eclectic and interesting, and filled with patriotism.  The booths are comfortable and the coffee great!  For breakfast I had the chicken fried steak, and my wife the corned beef hash.  Both meals were excellent!

In 2010, Jimmy’s was visited for two days by Guy Fieri and the crew of “Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.”  Mr. Fieri highlighted the restaurants Chicken n’ Dumplings, Pecan Rolls and Chicken Fried Steak Skillet.

We took a pecan roll home with us to enjoy later.  The pecan roll was massive and hugely delicious!

Be sure not to pass up a chance to visit Jimmy’s when in Couer d’Alene.

Yumm.  Love these kind of family places.  I noticed the license plate in the bottom right of your red booth photo is a U.S. Army plate that begins with AD.  When I first was in Germany during the Cold War, we had the green and white U.S. style plates then during the first Gulf War we had similar white and black plates with a USA logo.  But thankfully, in the 90’s we had Euro style plates that really didn’t give away our U.S. Army affiliation unless looking very closely.  Made us blend in much better on the highway.

Exploring Rapid City, South Dakota—the City of Presidents

Rapid City is best known for its proximity to Mt. Rushmore and the four presidents carved into it. But the City of Presidents also features a walk where you can encounter more than 40 Presidents who have been the United States’ Commander-in-Chief. The art is interesting and the walk is a lot of fun.
