Notting Hill is a London neighborhood with many histories, from its days as an early suburb of the city to anti-black riots in 1958 and 1976, and then to a new reputation spurred by a movie with its name in the 1990s, starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.
These days it’s best known as a mainly gentrified neighborhood that hosts an annual Caribbean carnival, and as a place where many of the area’s row houses are painted in colorful pastel hues.
These houses, on Lancaster Road, are different from most of the others: the Painted Ladies of Lancaster Road make no room for half-hearted hues!
