Namche Bazaar is the main town of the Sherpa people, in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It’s located at 3400 m (11,300′) above sea level, built on the steep slopes of the hill you see in this photo. The town is a popular place for hikers and trekkers to acclimatize on their way to Mount Everest, and many of the Sherpas that accompany these expeditions live right in this town.
Namche Bazaar is the main trading center for the region, with a lively Saturday market frequented by many traders from Tibet. It has numerous lodges, restaurants, stores, internet cafes, a post office, police station and a wonderful bakery! Everything except a road and swimming pool!
