A very cozy spot along the Portrush waterfront is the Harbor Bistro Restaurant, with its adjoining popular Harbor Bar. We had the pleasure of eating here one night and had one of the best meals we enjoyed in Ireland! The place was bustling, mostly local folk, something I’ve always found as a reliable sign of a good place.
We ended up having to wait about 20 minutes in the bar before a table was free and enjoyed a pint of Guinness while waiting. To his credit, the bartender crafted a Shamrock into the foam while pouring the beer, faded somewhat by the time I got this photo:
The restaurant itself is spacious and has a rustic feel. You’ll be seated and given a menu but there’s no waiter — you need to go to the bar area to order your food (something the locals all knew but took us a little while to catch on to). You can sit back and enjoy a drink or appetizer while waiting for the kitchen staff to bring your meal. The place had a pleasant ambiance and we had an enjoyable dinner.
The food was terrific! I had lamb shank….
and my brother enjoyed the fish, chips and mushy peas…..
But we saved room for dessert. The restaurant has an extensive selection of great looking deserts from which I picked this cake. It did not disappoint in anyway (wish I’d remember the name, but sorry, no such luck!)
So if in Portrush, do visit the Harbor Bistro Restaurant at least once.
