Viking, the company best known for its river cruises, announced a year ago it was going into the higher-end smaller-ship segment of the ocean cruise industry, and it must have found a sweet spot, because it’s already sold 70% of the spots for 2015 on its first ship, which is still under construction. That’s encouraged them to order two more, which will launch in 2016. These are 930-passenger ships, which seems like a lot until you compare them to the giants of Carnival and Norwegian that take several times as many.
Viking is also adding a dozen more river ships to its fleet. MORE
