Responding to reports of Chinese tourists being targeted by thieves in Paris, a group of Chinese police officers will patrol with their French counterparts this summer. Thieves apparently believe that Chinese tourists are more likely than most to be carrying large amounts of cash. France had 1.4 million Chinese visitors last year, and is counting on the surge to help lift the economy back to growth.
According to this report from The Guardian (UK), the patrols will be largely symbolic, but may also provide on-the-spot assistance to Chinese travelers.
