Being a music fan, a Beatles fan and a John Lennon fan, I had to visit the Strawberry Fields memorial when we were in New York. It is located in Central Park West between 71st and 74th streets, directly opposite the Dakota Buildings where John and Yoko lived.
My wife took this picture of me as I was quietly contemplating and remembering the life of John Lennon and what an iconic figure he was and still is today. Whilst the memorial itself is well designed and beautiful, the other part of this picture that I like is seeing the local New Yorkers in the background going about their daily business and enjoying this tranquil part of Manhattan.
Whenever we visit a new city, one of the first places we head for is the local park or gardens. This gives us a chance to orient ourselves and spend some quiet time before we go off exploring. Central Park is no exception and, whilst it took is a whole day to see only one third of it, it certainly is a must for your travel list.
“Imagine there’s no heaven”, John wrote. Well, Central Park could be an alternative (!).
