United “test-flies” its new website

United Airlines, which has taken heavy criticism for a bad job of merging computer systems after its merger with Continental, is taking no chances with its major overhaul of its website, according to an analysis in USA Today.

The new site is more than just cosmetics; it will include systems to display more and clearer information and to allow customers much more flexibility in sorting and searching. United is inviting an elite group of about 4000 long-time customers and corporate travelers to use if for a few months while their experience helps tweak it. It will then be opened to a bigger pool of testers, and only when United is satisfied it’s right will it go “live.” DETAILS

If any Gumbo-ites are among the beta pool and would like to share thoughts about it, we’d love to hear!
